About Me

Brianna Kimmel is a junior at the George Washington University, where she is studying journalism and mass communication, and environmental studies, with a minor in dance.

Brianna’s passion for digital media, encompassing both visual and written forms, fuels her commitment to journalism. She focuses on journalistic writing, but also enjoys photography, and has dabbled in video production. With a clean and personable style, Brianna’s creative pursuits extend into photography and video production as well. She values maintaining humanity while also providing facts. These values have allowed Brianna to find a home at the GW Hatchet, D.C.’s second-longest continuously running independent newspaper, as a culture reporter.

Driven by profound concern about the consequences of uncontrollable climate change, Brianna aims to dedicate her journalistic abilities to approach the problem of climate change from a fresh angle. Brianna aims to tell people’s stories, so it’s very important to her that everyone is well-represented in the media. Her dedication extends to the arts, where her dance background takes the spotlight. As a lifelong dancer and current dance minor, Brianna draws inspiration from performance studies and feels particularly compelled to write clips about the arts. As a queer journalist herself, Brianna particularly values the opportunity to authentically amplify queer voices in the DC community.

Brianna is also a member of the GW-TV team, as a camera and audio operator, post-production editor, and occasional on-camera actor for the station’s comedy show, District Debrief.

Born and raised in Goshen, New York, Brianna’s love of media began in her freshman year of high school in a film photography class. Throughout high school, she took photos at various high school sporting events, theater productions, and events. After taking advanced English courses, Brianna developed an interest in journalism.

Brianna’s core values – education, advocacy, and truth-telling – have remained consistent from the beginning, compelling her to make a meaningful impact through storytelling.
