go.
This second solo study for Dance Composition II was a text study. The text came from Roger Cohen’s An Affirming Flame:
“Van Gogh’s flowers are always wilting slightly. His lilies have turned from pink to purple and are a little brownish on the edges. The artist is interested in the beauty of the equipoise between life and death — and isn’t that where we are all situated without paying much attention to it? Van Gogh is less taken by perfection than decay.”
My intention with this solo was to show the decay of the body. I chose an upbeat score and encouraged myself to create choreography that was physically demanding.
In-Class Revision
I had the opportunity to receive direct, hands-on feedback from my peers for this solo. This is the revised version, including edits suggested by my Dance Composition II peers.
